The Ogden and Spencerport Historians will be hosting Patriot Remembrance ceremonies this spring to honor individuals buried throughout the Town of Ogden who contributed to America’s founding. These events are part of an effort to recognize local patriots in advance of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Two ceremonies are scheduled and open to the public. The first will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Fairfield Cemetery, 338 South Union Street, where Patriot Charles Kimball and Patriot Elder Daniel Brown will be honored. The second will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Colby Street Cemetery, on the south side of Colby Street, honoring Patriot Ephraim Colby. Each ceremony will include a graveside tribute recognizing their service and legacy.
Charles Kimball, born in 1755 in Connecticut, served as a private in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and took part in several major battles, including Bunker Hill, Long Island, and Saratoga. After the war, he eventually settled in Ogden in the early 1800s and lived here until his death in 1825.
Elder Daniel Brown, born in 1759 in Connecticut, also served in the Continental Army and later became an important early resident of the area. In addition to his military service, he is known for preaching one of the first sermons in Fairfield (now Ogden) and helping establish early churches in the region. He returned to Ogden later in life and died in 1842.
Ephraim Colby, born in 1747 in New Hampshire, enlisted early in the Revolutionary War and served in several key campaigns, including Bunker Hill and Trenton. He later settled in the Ogden area with his family around 1804, where his descendants have remained for generations and continue to have deep ties to the community. He died in 1823.
These Patriot Remembrance ceremonies offer residents an opportunity to reflect on the lives and contributions of these early patriots and to honor their lasting connection to the Town of Ogden and the nation.
