Mission Statement

To produce a fair and equitable assessment roll each year for the Town of Ogden and the Village of Spencerport by maintaining accurate records of real property ownership and physical characteristics; by carefully analyzing the local real estate market to determine equitable assessments that fairly distribute the total tax burden among all property owners based on the market value of their property; and by correctly determining eligibility for real property tax exemptions. The overriding goal is for no one to pay more or less than his or her fair share of the overall tax levy.

State Determined Duties:

The duties and responsibilities of the Assessing Department are determined by New York State laws and consist of preparing the annual Assessment Roll, which includes:

  • Administration of exemptions
  • Inspections of all properties and their changes since the last roll
  • Gathering of market data for property valuation
  • Valuation of all properties as of the taxable status date
  • Maintenance of valuation equity among similar property types
  • Attendance at all meetings of the Board of Assessment Review (BAR)
  • Defense of assessments under judicial review
Property Tax Exemptions
All new exemption applications and application renewals are due to the Assessor's Office by March 1st.  Most residential property exemptions require that the dwelling be the primary residence of the owner/applicant.
