On Wednesday, January 29, Town of Ogden employees, along with local, state, and federal representatives, gathered to honor Town Attorney Dan Schum’s remarkable 50+ years of service to the community in a special retirement celebration.

Dan Schum began his distinguished career with the Town of Ogden on November 28, 1973, when he was appointed Town Attorney.

“For over five decades, Dan has shown unwavering dedication to the Town of Ogden, exemplifying integrity and an exceptional commitment to public service,” said Ogden Town Supervisor Mike Zale. “During my time as Town Supervisor, Dan has been a trusted confidant and an invaluable asset, always offering expert legal counsel and guidance.”

A graduate of Spencerport High School (Class of 1965), Dan earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Notre Dame in 1969. He then earned his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law in 1972. In addition to his legal career, Dan proudly served as a United States Army Reserve Officer from 1970 to 1980. He was admitted to practice law in January 1973 and has remained an active member of both the New York State Bar Association and the Monroe County Bar Association. Dan also served as Counsel to the Spencerport Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc. and Spencerport Exempts since 1973.

“On behalf of the Ogden Town Board and our entire community, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for Dan’s steadfast service. We wish him an enjoyable and well-deserved retirement,” Zale concluded.
